The Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary sponsored their 30th Annual ‘A Special Day for Special Kids’ on March 21, 2015. It was an incredible day for the 3,000 people in attendance.
What started out as an innocent dinner at Hooters turned into my usually shy and passive autistic son hitting on a Hooters waitress. Six years old and he’s got game.
My son has overcome so much and although he continues to kick autism’s ass, unfortunately, autism wins every now and again.
After listening to my wife explained autism to his average developing brother, my ASD son responded with ‘I’m sorry.’ It was heart-breaking.
While autism and socialization don’t always go hand-in-hand, Halloween this year was great as my ASD son engaged with everyone; even when no candy bribe was included.
During a recent trip to Vegas, our son surprised a few people who didn’t know he has autism. It really validated his hard work with his socialization skills.
